LEI Validator

LEI Code

Please enter a 20-character LEI code to validate its syntax and check its registration status. Example: INR2EJN1ERAN0W5ZP974
LEI code must be exactly 20 characters.

LEI Validator

The LEI validator allows you to check if a Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) is syntactically valid and if it is registered in the Global LEI Foundation (GLEIF) database.

What is an LEI code?

An LEI (Legal Entity Identifier) is a 20-character alphanumeric code that uniquely identifies legal entities participating in financial transactions. The LEI code structure follows the ISO 17442 standard.

Validation Process

The validator performs two types of checks:

  1. Syntax validation: Checks that the LEI follows the correct format (20 alphanumeric characters) and has a valid checksum according to the ISO 17442 standard.
  2. Status validation: Verifies the LEI against the GLEIF database to check if it exists and what its current status is.

LEI Code Structure

An LEI code consists of:

  • Characters 1-4: Prefix identifying the Local Operating Unit (LOU)
  • Characters 5-18: Entity-specific part
  • Characters 19-20: Checksum digits
